Exact duplicates versus similar shots
An exact duplicate is a copy of the same file or image. Six shots taken a few seconds apart are not strictly identical, even if five of them add little value.
MonTri looks for visual proximity so these series can be reviewed together. Similarity does not make a photo bad, which is why the final decision stays manual.

What to check before deleting
Compare focus, expressions, framing and meaningful details. For an edited image, also check resolution and make sure the version you keep is the one you want to share or print.
- Keep the sharpest or best-framed version.
- Preserve variations that tell a genuinely different story.
- Review every rejection before confirmation.

Use the tools already on your phone first
Apple Photos includes a Duplicates collection that is useful for a first free pass. MonTri can then help with visually similar shots and the other clutter decks in the same workflow.

Duplicate photo questions
Does MonTri automatically delete duplicates?
No. It surfaces them for faster review, but you choose every image to keep or reject.
Are my photos sent to an online AI?
No. Photo-content analysis runs on the device and image files are not uploaded to a MonTri server.
Why are some grouped photos not identical?
Detection also looks for visual similarity, such as a burst. A group is a review suggestion, not a verdict.
Can I restore a rejected photo?
Yes, while it is still in MonTri review and before you confirm system deletion.
